    Skillsheet's mission is to make hiring more trustworthy, efficient, and candidate-friendly through identity-verified, video-first professional profiles. Central to this mission is our commitment to be transparent about the data we collect about you, how it is used, and with whom it is shared.

    This Privacy Policy applies when you use our Services (described below). We offer you choices about the data we collect, use, and share as described in this Privacy Policy, your account Settings, and our Help Center.

    Key Terms

    "Members" are registered users of Skillsheet. "Visitors" are non-registered users who may view certain public content. "Services" include skillsheet.me, Skillsheet-branded apps, and related communications, integrations, and features, unless they are governed by a different privacy policy.

    1. Data We Collect

    1.1 Data You Provide To Us

    Registration: To create an account you must provide your name, email address and/or mobile number, and a password. If you purchase a paid service, we will also collect payment and billing information.

    Profile: You may provide professional details such as education, work experience, skills, certifications, photo, location, and optional identity or employment verifications. Your profile content helps recruiters and hiring managers evaluate you.

    Uploads: You may provide resumes, documents, testimonials, or video content. These remain your content, subject to the licenses granted under our Terms of Service.

    1.2 Data From Others

    Recruiters and Employers: If you apply through a partner ATS or share your Skillsheet profile, we may receive data such as your resume or application materials.

    Verification Services: We may receive identity or credential verification results from third-party providers, including biometric data such as facial images and selfie photos from identity verification partners.

    Biometric Data and Facial Recognition: When you complete identity verification and create video content, we collect and use biometric identifiers, specifically facial geometry and facial recognition data. We use automated facial recognition technology to compare the face in your video recordings against your identity verification photos (including selfie and government-issued ID photos processed by our identity verification partner). This biometric processing helps us verify that the same person is using the platform, prevent fraudulent activity, detect account takeovers, and maintain platform security and trust. Facial comparison is performed automatically and may flag potential mismatches for manual review by our security team.

    Other Users: In rare cases, another user may upload content that contains information about you. If you believe your information has been uploaded without your knowledge or consent, you may request its removal by contacting support@skillsheet.me.

    1.3 Service Use

    We log usage data when you visit or use our Services, including app activity, content viewed, searches, clicks, and interactions with features. We collect device information (IP address, device type, OS, browser).

    1.4 Communications

    We collect information about your communications when you use our messaging, feedback, or support tools.

    As we add new features, we may collect new types of information. If changes are material, we will update this Policy and provide notice.

    2. How We Use Your Data

    We use your personal data to:

    • Provide, support, and improve our Services.
    • Verify identities, prevent fraud, and maintain platform trust through identity verification processes, including automated facial recognition technology that compares your video content against identity verification photos (selfie and government ID). This helps detect account takeovers, fraudulent profiles, and ensures the same person is using the account.
    • Enable recruiters and hiring managers to evaluate candidate profiles.
    • Recommend opportunities, content, or features.
    • Develop AI models that analyze video interviews, testimonials, and other submitted content, including facial analysis for identity verification purposes. AI may make mistakes, and users should verify before relying on outputs.
    • Communicate with you about updates, support, or promotions.
    • Detect and prevent security threats, fraudulent activity, and violations of our Terms through automated processing, including biometric comparison.
    • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms.

    2.1 Automated Decision-Making

    We use automated processing, including facial recognition algorithms, to analyze identity verification data. If our automated systems detect a potential mismatch between your identity verification photos and your video content, your account may be flagged for manual review by our security team. You have the right to contest any decision made based on automated processing by contacting support@skillsheet.me.

    3. How We Share Information

    Recruiters and Hiring Managers: When you choose to share your Skillsheet profile, they can view your profile, videos, and other uploaded content.

    Service Providers: We share data with vendors supporting hosting, analytics, payment processing, and identity verification.

    Legal Disclosures: We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or to protect our rights, users, or Services.

    Business Transfers: If Skillsheet is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale, your data may be transferred subject to this Policy.

    We do not sell your personal information.

    4. Your Choices & Obligations

    4.1 Data Retention

    We retain your data as long as your account is active or needed to provide the Services. We may also retain limited data to comply with law, resolve disputes, and maintain trust.

    4.2 Rights to Access and Control

    Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to:

    • Access or request a copy of your personal data.
    • Delete or request deletion of your data.
    • Correct or update inaccurate information.
    • Restrict or object to processing in certain cases.
    • Request removal of information uploaded by others without your consent.

    4.3 Account Closure

    If you close your Skillsheet account, most data will stop being visible within 24 hours. We generally delete account data within 30 days, subject to retention obligations.

    4.4 Biometric Data Rights (Illinois Residents)

    For Illinois Residents: Under the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA), you have specific rights regarding biometric data:

    • What We Collect: We collect facial geometry and facial recognition data from your identity verification photos (selfie and government ID) and video recordings.
    • Purpose: This data is used solely for identity verification, fraud prevention, and platform security as described in this policy.
    • Retention: Biometric data is retained while your account is active and for up to 3 years after account closure or last interaction with our services, whichever occurs first.
    • Destruction: Upon account closure, biometric identifiers are permanently deleted within 30 days, or within 3 years of your last activity, whichever is shorter.
    • No Sale: We do not sell, lease, trade, or otherwise profit from your biometric data. It is not disclosed to third parties except as required to provide our services (e.g., our identity verification partner) or as required by law.
    • Consent: By creating an account and completing identity verification, you provide informed written consent to our collection, use, and storage of your biometric data as described in this policy.

    5. Other Important Information

    5.1 Security

    We use technical and organizational safeguards to protect your data, but no system is completely secure. Use caution when sharing sensitive information.

    5.2 Cross-Border Data Transfers

    Your data may be processed outside your country of residence. We implement safeguards for international transfers where required by law.

    5.3 Content Ownership and Use

    You retain ownership of content you upload. By using the Services, you grant Skillsheet a license to host, use, and display your content solely for operating and improving the Services. Any reproduction or redistribution of your content without written consent from Skillsheet is prohibited.
